Lord Sugar apologised on Twitter after posting and deleting a racist tweet about Senegal's football team

Meanwhile, the rest of the world are in love with Senegal’s World Cup team and their fans.

SENEGAL ARE QUICKLY becoming one of the world’s favourite soccer teams after their impressive display against Poland yesterday, and the show of good spirit from their fans before and after the match, which they won 2-1.

Usually when a country wins a match at the World Cup, their fans head off to the pub to celebrate immediately after. However, a lot of Senegal supporters hung around the stadium to tidy up after yesterday’s game.

The Apprentice’s Lord Alan Sugar does not seem to be as fond of the Senegal team as everyone else is.

The 71-year-old millionaire took to Twitter this afternoon to make a shockingly inappropriate comment about Senegal’s football squad. It has since been deleted, but many Twitter users screenshotted it as soon as they spotted it.

After there was a negative response to the tweet, Sugar wrote:

Just been reading the reaction to my funny tweet about the guy on the beach in Marbella. Seems it has been interpreted in the wrong way as offensive by a few people. Frankly, I can’t see that I think it’s funny. But I will pull it down if you insist.

Lord Sugar then removed both the original tweet about Senegal and the second tweet in which he defended the original tweet. A new tweet was posted, issuing an apology.

People really were not impressed.

BBC’s Press Office then posted a tweet condemning Lord Sugar’s comments.

Labour MP Dawn Butler called for further action to be taken against Lord Sugar, both by BBC and the House of Lords.

She pointed out that Sugar’s tweet violated BBC’s Code of Conduct.
